Welcome Pre-schoolers

Hello Parents;

I am amazed at how many events are happening at Brant Christian. Let me start with a recap of last week before I outline what is coming up for this first week of May.

Badminton has been front and center in the area of athletics. Our senior high students competed in a zone tournament in Lethbridge on Friday. This was the first time for our students to be competing at this level and they learned a lot. Although none of our students will advance to the Provincial meet, each of our athletes can truly say that they are ending their season playing at a much higher level that when they started less than a month ago. This now ends the season for our high school students.

Our junior high students will be playing in their zone tournament this coming Saturday in Medicine Hat. We have 6 students who have qualified. Like their senior high counterparts, they to are learning how to play the game and are showing great improvement. Our grade 5/6 badminton players will have their introduction to tournament play this Saturday in Vulcan.

Track and Field will get underway for both junior and senior high students once everyone has finished playing badminton.

As mentioned in our previous blog, last week was our focus on writing as we celebrated our literacy symposium. We wrapped up this event on Friday with a visit from Bruce Campbell, Assistant Editor for the Okotoks Western Wheel. He spoke to our students about what it is like to run a small town newspaper and to be a reporter. Bruce spoke about what to be aware of when interviewing someone and then how to write the article. The last two periods of the afternoon was spent celebrating the accomplishments of our students, highlighting some of the individual work and enjoying some juice and crackers.

On Thursday, 5 of our grade 5/6 students and Miss Wolfe participated in student leadership conference in Vulcan. Our students came back with several new ideas that they can implement here at Brant that would get more students involved and allow them to take a leadership role.

The excitement for this week will be the arrival of our preschool students from our Genesis Preschools located in High River and Okotoks. Students in Genesis High River will join us on Tuesday and the students in Okotoks coming to Brant on Wednesday. These are open house for anyone who would like to come out to Brant. We provide transportation to and from Brant. On Tuesday a bus will leave from the High River Alliance Church at 12:00 and on Wednesday from the Okotoks Alliance church at 12:00. Students will be back to their Genesis locations by 3:30 each day.

Our grade 7/8 students are looking forward to this week as they leave on their annual trip to Camp Little Red. Students and chaperones will leave Brant after school on Wednesday and be returning home late Friday afternoon. If you have any questions regarding this field trip please contact Mr. Doerksen at school

This Wednesay is chapel time lead by Mrs. Brunning. We start at 1:15 with our elementary students, joint worship begins at 2:20 and junior, senior high fellowship starts at 3. Parents are always welcome to attend. We look forward to seeing you at school.

Thank you,

Kevin Bailey
