Happy Mother's Day

Hello Parents;

I trust that as you read this you are able to say that you were able to let your mother know what a blessing they have been in your life. My greater hope is that you do this throughout the year and not just on the day we choose to celebrate our mothers. What a special role our moms have played in our lives and the untold influence they have been through their patience, kindness, care and guidance. Thank you moms.

This week has been a sad week as we watched the tragedy unfold in Fort McMurray. I cannot imagine how frightening that must have been for those residents to leave so quickly knowing that their homes might not be there when they come back. I know that you have been praying for the situation and I ask that you continue to do so as the days and weeks go by.

The visits this week by our preschoolers went well and it was a lot of fun to have them out to Brant. Genesis Okotoks was able to participate in our chapel which was extra special. We look forward to having many of the preschoolers from both High River and Okotoks join us next year as kindergarten students.

In the area of sports, our junior high badminton team travelled to Medicine Hat on Saturday to participate in their last tournament of the year while our grade 5/6 students participated in their one and only tournament in Vulcan. For all the students who participated in badminton, I know that they learned a lot and are looking forward to next year when they can continue to build their skill level and represent Brant Christian at more tournaments. Thank you to Chrissie Nauta for being a driver and to Rachel Nauta who came as a parent volunteer. Our focus now turns to Track and Field with practices getting underway this week.

Our junior high students were away at Camp Little Red from Wednesday after school until Friday afternoon. I understand that it was a very successful and fun time for all students and that the chapel speaker had very good messages for our students. We are thankful to the staff and Camp Little Red for hosting us all these years and for the prayer and effort they put into their work with young people.

On Tuesday of this week we will be encouraging everyone to wear blue jeans and to bring a toonie with them to school. The event is a fundraiser for cancer. Miss Wolfe is busy most noon hours getting our actors ready for the school spring stage presentation. The matinee performance will be on Wednesday, May 18 and the evening performance takes place on Thursday, May 19. Along with the drama presentation our band and music spring performances will also be taking place.

Each year students in grades 6 and 9 write provincial achievement tests. Our grade 6 students will be writing Part A of their Language Arts class this Thursday, May 12. The remainder of the exams for grade 6 and 9 will take place in June.

Looking further into May, the Brant Christian little school house on wheels will be in the High River parade on Saturday May 21. We are in need of young children to ride in the float and older students to walk the parade route greeting the people and handing out candy. Our student's council will be hosting a talent show contest for the students at Brant. We hope to have several local pastors out to act as judges. This is an opportunity for your son/daughter to demonstrate what they have learned in their music, dance, singing, etc. lessons that you have put so much time and money into. The talent show will get underway at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 27. We are encouraging as many people as possible to come and join us for the afternoon.

Thank you,

Kevin Bailey

Camp Little Red - May 2016
