Brant's Chorus group

Hello Parents;

The big news at Brant Christian this week is that we will be starting up a choral group for students in grade 7 - 12. Tim Korthuis, music pastor at Okotoks Alliance Church, will be the director. Practices will start this Thursday, October 6 at lunch time. We will be encouraging all of our students in this age range to come out and lend their voices to what will become a very special part of Brant Christian School. Our goal is to perform at various music festivals around Alberta and to participate, when possible, in the churches that support Brant Christian. We are grateful to Tim for volunteering his expertise. Aside from his duties at Okotoks Alliance, he also directs two choral groups in Okotoks.

Part of our on-going vision at Brant is to provide as many varied activities for our students as we can. We will always keep our focus on being a Christ-centered school that believes student success comes through strong academics, opportunity to participate in the Arts and a competitive athletics program. We are grateful for our society board and the support that they provide to us in order to carry out this mandate.

Further to our Arts program, we are adding an opportunity for students to engage in the Culinary Arts. Under the supervision of Miss Wolfe' our students will soon be able to participate in an after school baking class. Students interested in participating need to talk with Miss Wolfe and pick up the permission form.

Teachers in grades 2 - 8 are busy testing our students in their literacy abilities. This is a program where we measure a student's reading and comprehension skills in the fall and again in the spring to ensure that our students are maintaining a high level of fluency in their reading. This will continue for the next week. We will be sending your child's results home to you later in the fall.

Thank you to the parents who came out to our "meet the teacher" evening last Thursday. We appreciated the opportunity to meet with you and talk about your children and their involvement in our school.

With next weekend being Thanksgiving I want to take this opportunity to wish you a safe weekend for those who will be travelling. If you are hosting family at your place then I trust your weekend will be enjoyable. Either way, it is an opportunity to reflect upon our blessings and give thanks to God for His grace.

Kevin Bailey
