Stretchy Eagles Curling Team Success

What a wonderful week of non-winterlike weather! It is certainly a blessing when we don’t have to bundle up so tightly against the fierce cold that we can experience in this part of the world. Thank you for keeping your kids in winter footwear (i.e. winter and rubber boots) as there is lots of mud and puddles that scream out to be wallowed or jumped in.

Skating Party Postponed
The BCS family skating party scheduled for February 8 has been postponed because of the warm weather. Stay tuned for more information to come.

***Registration for 2024-25***
We want to remind all our Brant families that are planning on registering your child(ren) at BCS for September 2024-25 that registration opens on February 15, 2024. All returning families in good standing can begin registering on February 15 and will have their spot reserved if they register by March 14, 2024. For families new to Brant, registration opens on March 15, 2024 . If you are a returning family or know someone who wants to register their children at BCS, it is important to register as soon as you are permitted as some classes are already near capacity . Late registrants will run the risk of being put on a waiting list should some classes be full.

Open House
Brant Christian School’s annual Open House will take place Thursday, Feb. 29th from 3-7 pm. Please let your friends, family and neighbours interested in BCS about this opportunity to tour around the school and ask questions. If you would like to help at the open house with baking, serving refreshments or to help with hosting, please put in your name on the link: volunteersignup.org/3K838

Mission Trip Flower Fundraiser
This fundraiser has traditionally been in support of mission work both nationally or internationally. Students have traveled to Mexico to build homes for local residents and have been to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside to serve street people suffering from addictions. As yet, we have not decided on our mission trip for 2025, but we would love to have you purchase flower baskets knowing that your funds would be going to support the student who you purchase flowers from, in blessing and giving hope to those less fortunate. If you don’t know a student going into grade 9-12 next year to designate your purchase, the amount raised will go into our general missions fund. Please find more info here.

Curling
Our “Stretchy Eagles” curling team won their first game of the season with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over Champion. Congratulations to Kiffer and Violette Doerksen and Isabella Connelly on their victory!

Badminton (Grades 7-12)
If your junior/senior high school son or daughter would like to play on the badminton team this year, they will need to fill out the permission form that has been sent home. Practices are scheduled at 7am at the High River Rec Centre on Fridays when school is not in session beginning on Friday, February 8th through to April 5th . There is a $5 drop-in fee for all participants. There will be a qualifying zone playdown tournament in mid-April with those who qualify going on to zones at the end of April. Please remind your children to submit the permission form as soon as possible.

Annual Ski/Snowboard Trip
Brant’s annual ski trip to Nakiska this year will take place on Friday, March 8 . Information has been sent home outlining the various costs and stipulations. If you are parents of children K - 3, please read over the information you receive carefully as there have been policy changes from the district that you will have to be aware of. If you plan on bringing your kindergarten child, please contact our admin assistant Cathy Massey for more information. The deadline for returning forms is Thursday, February 8 . It will be nice to get out on the slopes!

Hot Lunch
Hot lunches take place every Thursday. Hot lunches rotate between hot dogs, taco in a bag, pizza, hamburgers and pulled pork sandwiches. February orders are now closed.

Parent Volunteers
We want to thank all the volunteers for continuing to help out in so many ways. A big shout out goes to Alan Top who came out this past week with his tractor and grated all the ice from our parking lots. This was much appreciated as the parking lot was becoming treacherous for our buses and students to navigate. Thanks Alan (and John Deere)!
As we continue to grow in student population, the Parent Engagement Group is asking for parent volunteers for the following roles to help better support our teachers and students:

K-6 (Tuesday and Thursday mornings)
- Classroom assistance: To be able to help with language arts and/or math skills in small group settings
- Administrative tasks (e.g. laminating, preparing materials, …etc.)

Gr. 7 - 12
- Math tutoring at noon hours (twice a week)

K - 12 Playground and Lunch Hour Supervision
Our breaks take place at 10-10:15, 11:45-12:15 and 2:00-2:15. Helping with supervision is such a blessing for staff and students as it helps teachers provide students with extra help for concepts they may struggle with, helps students complete tests or assignments they may need to catch up on because of absences.

If you’d like to help in any of these capacities, please sign up at: http://volunteersignup.org/8BWCL . We hope to get in contact with you as needs arise. Thanks so much!

Prayer Team at BCS
"Regarding a Prayer Team at BCS - After some discussion and back-and-forth with teachers, PEG meeting, etc, we have decided to try two things: There will be a time of prayer for BCS following each month's PEG meeting and there will be a bi-weekly prayer email sent out with prayer requests and answered prayer reports. We invite you to be part of the prayer time at PEG! Also, if you would like to be on the prayer email list, please email secretary@brantchristian.org and you will be added. Please reach out to other Brant families and let them know about this opportunity!"

Write-On Bulletin Board
Parents, want to brag on/encourage your kids? We have a way to do that! We have a "Write On" bulletin board at school in the main hallway where our student's achievements can be posted and celebrated! Simply send a note with an article or photo to Cathy Massey, who will print it and post it on the board. Simple as that!

Finally, feel free to reach out to me should you have any ideas or concerns, or just want to chat.

Mr. Shain Chisholm, Principal
