A New School Year Begins!

Hello to all our wonderful Brant families!

Wow! What a great start to our year. This week has felt like a whirlwind, but having the students in the building has been a real blessing. Over and over I have heard from the staff how much they love their class and are enjoying their students. This is so encouraging to me, and I am sure you feel the same as I do, that it is also wonderful having a staff who see and celebrate all of the good things in their students. I am so blessed to work with such amazing teachers, and to have such wonderful children here at Brant.

One of the minor hiccups we have been dealing with to start the year has been the implementation of a new information system (Edsby/Edsembli) for our division. While we knew it was coming, it started earlier than we expected, and we have been working to navigate this new process at the same time as we have started the year with our classes. This new system is going to be a benefit to our community, improving a number of areas, including communication, but it is a steep learning curve at first. As a result there have been some delays in what we would normally have in place by now, and we are grateful for the patience of students and you our families as we roll it out. We look forward to connecting you to the Edsby portal in the very near future, so watch for that announcement.

Two things came home to families today. One is the permission form for the Calgary Corn Maze field trip next Friday, Sept 9th. This whole school field trip is an annual one that we enjoy as a chance for all the grades to interact and have a great community time to start the year. Please have the permission forms and payment in to homeroom teachers by next Thursday the 8th at the absolute latest.

The second is the information on the apple fundraiser. See this INFO SHEET and order tracking form. Here is a quick blurb from our organizer:

Greetings Brant Families!

It’s apple time! We are excited to be partnering again with Davison Orchards to bring back the Apple Fundraiser this year.  Davison Orchards is a family-operated farm in BC. For those who took part last year, you know that these apples sell themselves, they are that good! If you haven't had a Davison Orchard apple, it's just like eating candy! This year the orchard took a bit of a hit with the weather, and due to that, we are unable to receive Honeycrisp, but there are still three different varieties of delicious tasting apples, great for eating and baking.

Money raised will go towards the building fund.  We invite the whole school to participate and join in on this excellent fundraiser. Orders are due Wednesday, October 12.  Delivery of apples will be Tuesday, October 25. To make things as streamline as possible, please collect money form your customers and then submit ONE payment to Brant with your order form. Payments can be made online or by etransfer to bcssfees@gmail.com (Please add a comment as to what it is for). Cash or cheque (to Brant Christian School Society) is also accepted.

Any questions please email Jennifer Barreth @ jennifer.barreth@gmail.com.

I also want to remind those families who have a student going on our missions trip this year, that the second $100 deposit is now due. Those who have fundraised may already have this covered, but if you are unsure please check with the office and Mrs. Massey can confirm this for you.

Finally, the division has asked me to share its Fair Notice Letter with you, which I have attached. This outlines the division's commitment to keep students safe and implement a threat assessment when troubling or worrisome behavior is observed/reported. There is a link within the letter that identifies how the process takes place.

Since Monday is Labor Day, this gives all of you an extra day to get some rest after all your work to get back into the school routine. I want to wish you God’s blessing on your time as a family this weekend, as you enjoy time together in the sunshine. Grace and peace to you all!

Quinn Barreth, Principal
